RETREAT INFORMATION FOR
VISITING FAMILIES:
Years
ago, we were fishing in Canada when we happened upon a beautiful log
cabin. When we inquired about its ownership, we were surprised to
learn that it was a special get-a-way for the Make-A-Wish Foundation,
utilized by families coping with cancer. We were so deeply
touched, that on that day we vowed, if ever we had the opportunity, we
would create a similar retreat to support families coping with cancer.
In
2005, we purchased a home on Island Lake, part of the beautiful White
Fish Chain just north of Brainerd. At that time, Blair and Nancy
Ferguson, members of our church, were coping with the loss of their
15 year old daughter Tiffany. Tiffany was a vibrant, thoughtful,
friendly girl who had been diagnosed with leukemia. Her family had
been searching for a way in which Tiffany’s life could not only be
remembered but also continue to impact and benefit other families. We
happened to run into them at our son’s baseball game and share in
their memories of Tiffany. It was then that we realized that God had
just presented us with the opportunity to help families coping with
cancer. The Ferguson’s were the first family to stay at our new
retreat. They spent special family time with their two other
daughters on the lake, at the bonfire, just being quiet in prayer,
laughing and remembering Tiffany. This was when the decision was made
to name the retreat after Tiffany, a special young woman that God
created and placed in our lives to share His joy with us. It is our
sincere hope and desire that we can provide a get-a-way for your
family to spend special moments together, away from the hassles of
home, chores, and hospitals to create long lasting memories
